Oscar-winning actor, comic genius: Robin Williams dies at 63 from suspected suicide

image

#TaniaOnTheScene - Sadly, we say goodbye to a great actor.

Robin Williams was found dead in his home on Monday around noon.

Over the years, Williams struggled with alcohol and cocaine addiction, and as of late, struggled with severe depression.

The international superstar’s first major role was as a lovable alien in the TV series “Mork and Mindy.” He was also known for his many roles, from “Good Will Hunting,” to “Dead Poets Society,” “Mrs. Doubtfire,” “Jumanji” and more.

The 63-year-old reportedly died in what appears to be a suicide from asphyxiation.

'Robocop': Remake

image

#TaniaOnTheScene - “Robocop" is a movie about a very smart, technically proficient crew that, when a good man has been seriously injured, takes the living organism apart and puts it back together with synthetic pieces. It feels like the movie was made the same way.

The filmmakers started with the original, 1987 slick sci-fi actioner starring Peter Weller and directed by Paul Verhoeven. They disassembled it, eliminating some of the wilder political satire, and making the violence mostly bloodless. Then they added better effects, a stronger supporting cast, and a different ending.

It’s not as alive anymore – but it works. The cynical touches are still here, only updated (the cyber cop is now an outgrowth of a drones program, and the film’s news breaks are delivered by a mad Bill O’Reilly clone played by Samuel L. Jackson).

Rejoice! Dave Chappelle is Back!

#TaniaOnTheScene - Dave Chappelle, who’s generally kept a low profile since the end of “Chappelle’s Show” eight years ago, is about to come back in a big way.

Chappelle is the headliner for Funny or Die’s "Oddball Comedy and Curiosity Festival," which kicks off August 23 in Austin, Texas. The tour, which also includes Flight of the Conchords, Demetri Martin and Kristen Schaal, will run through 13 cities in five weeks, concluding in Mountain View, California.

Oh, it’s not like Chappelle has been in hiding; in fact, he’s touring the Southeast right now, and will be playing three shows in Nashville and five in Atlanta in the coming weeks. But in recent years the comedian’s best-known public appearances have been occasional drop-ins at L.A.’s Laugh Factory and spots on “Inside the Actors Studio.”
